For the eighth time in the current DTM season, Sunday’s race at the Nürburgring will be seeing an Audi RS 5 DTM start from grid position one. In qualifying for the 16th race (start at 13.35 CEST, live on ‘Das Erste’) Miguel Molina in the Teufel Audi RS 5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline was in a class of his own.
‘Magic’ Molina immediately put himself at the front of the field at the beginning of the qualifying session and on his second fresh set of tires clearly improved once more. Posting a time of 1m 21.732s, he outperformed BMW driver Tom Blomqvist by more than two tenths of a second, relegating him to second place. “This was a perfect lap,” Molina said following the fifth pole position in total in his DTM career. “I didn’t make a single mistake which in view of the close competition in the DTM is crucial. My car was superb – the mechanics did a fantastic job following my accident yesterday.”
The same is true for the squad of Jamie Green whose Hoffmann Group Audi RS 5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Rosberg was heavily damaged on Saturday as well. In the repaired car, the Briton secured grid position three.
